The first lesson will involve you using an interactive whiteboard where you will be instructing the children in playing a scientific game on 'science kidz'. The game will enable children to identify the living things in the picture, then the students will need to identify the location of the living organisms and state what they will grow into. The next step to this lesson will be getting the students to complete a worksheet task. They are to cut out the images provided and stick them in to either the living or non living column. This will be done independently but the students are able to discuss their ideas and views with those around them, for where they believe the image goes. Lesson two involves the students discovering their own environment and what in the environment is living and non-living. You are to guide the children to the top playground so that they can work in pairs to look and discover their own environment. This will allow students to feel safe and comfortable to explore as they know their area. You are to go and visit each pair to ensure they have all found some living and non-living things. Once all pairs have found living and non-living things bring them back to class to engage the students in a discussion to see what they found and to engage students in learning about what the organisms they found need to survive. This is to be carried out with the use of an IWB to help keep it interactive and engaging!

The assessment for these lessons will be mostly carried out informally. It will include observations, questioning, discussions and photographs (this will be to show the children understand what living things need in order to grow and survive, taken during lesson 3). In regard to the rubric it is not overly extensive as this is aimed at stage one.

The introduction will involve the students watching a video off youtube. Once the video has concluded students are to engage in a brainstorm on the IWB (interactive whiteboard) where they are to write up their ideas on what are living things, how are they different to non-living, their ability to name some and what they need to survive.
It is important that you are working alongside children to help support and guide them in their learning through the three lessons and in particular with the use of the interactive whiteboard and their activities!

Lesson three is a hands on activity. The students are to partake in this fun experience to see first hand and learn what living things need in order to survive. Students are to work in pairs in growing their own plant (in this class it will be with alfalfa seeds as they grow quite quickly and students will be able to see results, but you can use whatever seeds you like!). It is extremely important to have prepared and organised this lesson so ensure that the lesson flows successfully. The steps in lesson three are simple and basic and enable you to have a clear outline of how to help students in planting, watering and watching the seeds grow.

When you get your worksheet, cut out the pictures and use glue to stick them into the column you think they belong.
